We went to a Halloween party, our first in years and years, certainly since children. By the time we got there, I was ready to go home and lay down. Not an option, of course, after all the preparations, so we stayed and loved the costumes and ate too many candy corns and chocolate eyeballs.
The next day we went to church, went back to the party house for our gear and some more trampoline time, and then rallied for a great walk with great neighbors.
And the day after that, we washed enough dishes and folded enough laundry to go trick-or-treating.
We did not, however, succeed in getting one decent photo of all the Halloween costumes (candy is way more important than looking at the camera). Instead, there are several half-decent photos of some of the costumes.
I loved them all for being just what I like in a costume: assembled from Goodwill finds, household objects, and handmade accessories.
Flora the Explorer: Solomon's hat with a flower, and a backpack with a water bottle, an apple, a map of the world, and a rubber chicken.
Ursula the Soho Ocelot (or Leopard, or Jag-wire): Goodwill everything except rain boots and a handmade tail.
Asa the Jaguar: a Gramma-made bathrobe,Rachel-made ears, and Amanda-painted face. (Photo by Allison Harl.)
Rebecca the Witch: Asa made a moth-fairy for my hat, and I got to wear my mother's fantastic red velvet coat to the party. (Photo by Jeff Dalton, and yes, Rachel's fox costumes were amazing.)
Glen the Frog Prince: a green welding jacket from the pottery lab, a hat made from sadly felted sweaters, and fingers from gold felt found years ago in a secondhand store.
And then, the day after Halloween, we ate candy. It's not so bad for you if you eat it outside on a blanket, right?
